MP’s decision defies the plans for DAB – Radio Sweden

The Green Party’s congress has decided that the Swedish FM radio is not to be closed down and replaced with digital DAB radio.

This means, according to Nicklas Malmberg, the Green Party’s cultural spokesperson, the Green Party in government will say no to the Committee proposal that is currently processed and which proposes switch-off of FM radio in 2022 and the digital DAB radio is introduced.

The Cabinet ongoing preparation of inquiry proposed introduction of DAB + broadcasting and switching off the FM network in 2022. The decision is expected shortly from the government and the Green Party’s Cultural Minister Alice Bah Kuhnke.

The news thus becomes according Nicklas Malmberg that there will be no implementation of the proposal.

The private radio stations has pushed the issue as well as the Swedish Radio, to replace the analogue FM network with digital broadcasting in DAB +.

The criticism has partly been very stark against the introduction of DAB from several heavy bodies consulted. In addition, says Nicklas Malmberg PTS, Posts and Telecommunications Board, has stated that there are opportunities to get more channels in the existing FM network for private radio.

– There is FM radio’s availability is its great advantage , says Nicklas Malmberg.
