Gunilla Almedalsbox present party leaders – Göteborgs-Posten

During the political week in Visby show gp.se every day a new episode of Ms Almedalsbox. GP’s politics reporter Gunilla Grahn-Hinnfors explains what it is about.

What is Ms Almedalsbox?

There is a mix of policy analysis and Brasses Lattjo lajban box. I got the idea when I, along with my daughter, watched unboxingvideos, then movies on Youtube where teenagers unpacking and talking about stuff they bought. I came to think that politicians in recent years have been fond of to have with stuff when they speak. The ecologist stenkolbit who was in every single debate before the election even got its own Twitter account.

I’ve put together three things for each party leader who speaks during Almedalen Week eight days. Gadgets may symbolize the Party’s policy and perhaps something personal about the party leader. When I and photographer Bengt Kjellin would film I had with me a bag of rather strange contents, there was everything from patches and push the ninja sword and hair spray.

The videos are 2-3 minutes long and are published on the gp. see under Almedalsveckan.

Why are you doing this?

Almedal box is meant as a little easygoing entrance to the party leaders’ speeches for me, the highlight of Almedalsveckan. It’s so seldom we hear politicians speak for 30-40 minutes of ideology and daily politics. It is usually interesting and often gives a good picture of what the party is doing and where it is heading, but also about what drives the individual politician.

During Almedalsveckan I will listen to speeches every day and write analyzing them. They will go to read both gp.se and in the printed edition.

How is GP, beyond that, to monitor Almedalsveckan?

GP Social media editor Caroline Karlsson will have several chats during the week where readers can come up with questions. We will also have digital direct reporting from the interesting seminars. There are over 3,000 program items during the week and many looks attractive. On Monday at 15 there is such a debate on energy policy that seems promising. Other hot topics are housing policies, public health, and extremism.

The exciting Almedalsveckan is that it brings together policymakers from across the public sector in Sweden, governments, politicians, interest groups and business. You can meet Volvo boss, foreign minister or an idiosyncratic entrepreneur in the street and hear debates about everything from ventilation of school buildings to the situation in Ukraine. The hard part is choosing.

We will of course have an extra eye on the West Swedish arena in which actors from Gothenburg and West Sweden organize debates and seminars. But since it usually always happen to a lot of unexpected things when Schyman burned money or Pussy Riot appeared.

We have daily reporting digitally on gp.se starting Sunday 28 June. The goodies are also included in the printed newspaper. Moreover debate the editorial opinion articles related to topics covered during the week and conductor editorial team will be in place.

Another fun thing is that my colleague Arne Larsson will have its own politicians week at home: in Almedal. He blogs from the little forgotten town along Mölndalsvägen. Although there are at gp.se.
