Skåne Police suspect the grenade attack in Kroksbäck is linked to previous serious crimes in Malmö, including the bombings of Rättscentrum. Now a special group reviewing the incident. “We’re looking for connection,” said information officer Ewa-Gun Westford.

It was about five o’clock on Saturday morning, police received the alarm about the grenade attack in the district Kroksbäck in Malmo. A person must have been in the flat when the two grenades were thrown.

About 60 people were evacuated to a nearby school and the area was cordoned off while waiting for the police bomb technicians. At ten o’clock the cordon was lifted and residents were allowed to return home.

– We have added them (grenades) in the bomb cart and forslat them away now. We have found that there are sharp hand grenades, and they carried away now, the area is secured, said police spokesman Lars Performed Tell.

But at 14 o’clock in the afternoon blocked the police of parts of the residential area again, then you have found a possible dangerous objects in a car parked outside a health center in North Bäckgatan. Police Bomb Technicians wanted to take a closer look at the object.

– Due to the morning’s activity, we take the safe way, said Kim Hild, press officer at Skåne police.

No persons were evacuated. At 16:30 o’clock was lifted the cordon.

– Technicians have salvaged vehicle from the site. If there is something dangerous in that we do not know yet, says Skåne police spokesperson Ewa-Gun Westford.

About the same time came reports that a man had been injured in what suspected to be a shooting at Söderkulla square in Malmo. Skåne University Hospital received a man in his 20s who was seriously shot injured.

– His friends took him to the hospital, the people we have brought in for questioning but they are not suspects for some, says Ewa-Gun Westford.

The police are investigating the incident as a suspected assassination attempt.

The police know yet is not whether there is a connection between the suspected shooting and the events in Kroksbäck. They are secretive about the investigation.

– It is an extremely serious crime that we are investigating, and we are careful to tell out about what we do for observations because it limits our ability to investigate the crime, says Lars Performed Tell.

A special group within the police to examine the grenade attack because it is suspected that it may be linked to a series of serious crimes in Malmo, including explosions at Rättscentrum the end of last year. Since the trial of the alleged perpetrators was launched on 8 June, a series of disturbances occurred.

The day before the trial start shootings occurred in Rosengård and then have troubles in the district continued. Even Seved has been hit by unrest. It’s about car fires, shootings, explosions and various types of threats.

– We have a staff of special events that are looking for connections between what happens in Malmo right now. Many in criminal circles have different relationships with each other, says Ewa-Gun Westford.
