Democracy Criterion new demands on arms exports – Swedish Radio

It has been a lengthy study on Swedish arms exports, the biggest question is which demands Sweden to ask for democracy in the countries that want to buy the Swedish arms.

In a debate article in Dagens Industri today writes the members of KEX investigation that states with large democratic deficits should not be allowed to buy Swedish weapons.

With the new stricter rules will buying country judged on the degree to which democratic institutions are in place and how these work. Additionally, the criteria on human rights which exist today made clearer and more applicable.

When it comes to follow-on deliveries, Sweden will take into account the situation in the host country worsens. At the same time after the control tightened so that exported arms do not move on to another country.
