Two people suspected of having recruited and trained terrorists to Syria and Iraq have been arrested in Örebro and Stockholm.

Minister Anders Ygeman (s) believe in more arrests.

First came Sapo with information that a man arrested and detained in Orebro, suspected of terrorist recruitment.

The basis for taking this the action is obviously information that people have gone to Syria and Iraq, says Anders Kassman, chief operating officer at the Swedish Security Service (Säpo).

The 45-year-old man in Örebro was arrested along with his son, reportedly told TT . According to Expressen, the son was released after a few hours, and now is not suspected.

The 45-year-old, who is from Iraq, is since many years famous for his extreme views, according to TT’s sources. He should have been interrogated before the Security Service but not prosecuted. The man has been in private associations praised al-Qaeda and attempted to conduct recruitment there, rather than to the IS, which can be seen as a competitor.

The man has recently preached in a mosque in Eskilstuna, but had previously been active in a parish in Örebro, according to TT’s informant.

Denies crime

The 45-year-old lawyer, Andreas Hahn, would not say how he stands to his arrest and the accusations.

I can say that he denies the crime, but that the investigation looks now, I have no authority to speak further, says Mr Hahn.

Jamal Lamhamdi is the spokesperson for Orebro mosque, where the man previously been active. He is upset that the mosque is now linked with terrorism.

We fight hard against any radicalization, and cooperate with all authorities. We would never allow someone to recruit here. We are Swedish and part of this society, that’s what happens here is most important to us, he says.

He does not believe that the 45-year-old man would have recruited for terrorist activities, or have no connections to al-Qaeda. In contrast, asked 45-year-old recently to take a break from the mosque. Though it had nothing to do with radical opinions that do.

It was some misunderstanding with other members, we do not want conflicts within the mosque. I have never noticed that he would have some radical views, we have known him since 2003, says Jamal Lamhamdi.

It has tried to identify people who are susceptible, says Anders Kassman.

Recruitment should also have occurred, for example cafes.

Magnus Ranstorp, terrorism expert at the Swedish National Defence College, says there has not previously been any similar arrests in Sweden.

This could be the start of more aggressive interventions, says Ranstorp as hope Monday’s action could also have a deterrent effect.

Minister Anders Ygeman (S) believes in more arrests and to Swedish terrorist criminals will end up ‘behind bars’. He looks forward to the report with proposals on lagskärpningar about the recruitment, organization, financing, training and terror travels presented in just over two weeks.

There are a number of gaps to be filled. Today, for example, prohibited to provide terrorist training, but it is not forbidden to receive it, says Ygeman.

It is unclear to which organization 45-year-old is suspected of having tried to recruit, but about 300 Swedish citizens is expected fight for the Islamic state (IS).

Nearly 40 of them have died in the fighting in Syria and Iraq, according to the Security Police.

The turnout from Sweden to IS is seen by experts as exceptionally high.
