Life-threatening injuries after a canoe accident

Two boys at the age of 15 have received life-threatening injuries after a canoe accident in Ånnsjön west of Åre.

They cared now in hospital in Trondheim, Norway.

The accident occurred during a confirmation camp. According to police, there were three leaders and three young people who took to the lake to paddle.

For unknown reasons overturned the canoes and the six ended up in the water. Three of them managed to get up by themselves.

The other three were rescued by emergency services. It was also in CPR on them, says Hans Ängquist, duty officer at the police in Jamtland, to TT.

Two of those rescued from the water was flown by helicopter to hospital in Trondheim for care. The Norwegian hospital said later in the evening that the state of them is critical.

The other four were taken to hospital in Östersund. According Region Jämtland Härjedalen, two boys and two girls born between 1997 and 2000 from central Sweden. They are conscious and has no serious physical injuries.

What caused the accident is unclear, but during the rescue operation was very bad weather in the area, reports Swedish Television News Jamtland.
