Who is going to show gratitude and why? A National debate has been revived by an editorial column in Aftonbladet and a reaction from Vice President Tobias Billström (M).

Aftonbladet editorial Somar Al Naher wrote on Friday, a chronicle of the välkomstceremonier which traditionally farmed held for new Swedish citizen on the National Day.

She describes her own family’s struggle to stay after arriving in 1989, and “hell process and humiliation that the asylum process many times does”.

Her conclusion is that she wants to have an excuse, not a ceremony.

The Chronicle got the former migration minister Tobias Billström (M), which is now the Vice President, to respond to their private Facebook page.

“OK. So you do not sing the national anthem, eat prinsesstårtan or even rejoice with all who receive their citizenship certificate tomorrow.

But you know what Somar? I think you could show a little gratitude. Gratitude that there are states like Sweden who cares, “writes Billström.

The results of these two text in different forum is an angry debate in social media, where people are either Al Nahers or Bill’s side. The former has been hashtag #backasomar to TRENDA on Twitter – admittedly with some help from people who agree with Billström and do not want to back Somar Al Naher, without Al Naher be back.

Tobias Billström must cheers in their comment fields, but critics called his tone in the post intimidating and condescending . DN have searched Billström, but he declined to comment on the matter.

Somar Al Naher has followed up his chronicle with an own posts on Facebook, where she writes that she has understanding for those who want to celebrate their citizenship with a ceremony.

“But the ceremony, how it is described, hides the fact that there is often a long inhuman inhumane degrading hellish process. (…) The reactions have not been slow in coming. I seem to have offended very many, especially men. Hate messages has broken records. The phone rings. First Vice President Tobias Billström, terror experts and liberal pundits have flipped. “
