Fact: Different strategies

Plasmacytos is a viral disease minkars affecting the immune system. People can not become infected.

Animals without resistance can become very sick and must be killed. The animals get smaller hills and fur quality is getting worse.

In Sweden plasmacytos been off and on, but has not led to large outbreaks. Here are bred the minks that are naturally resistant to the disease. On affected farms in Sweden not killed any animals, but usually only those who become seriously ill.

Denmark has chosen a different path, which kept the infection completely away from the country lower long time. The resistance among Danish mink is thus less.

Sure, it is clear that there is a risk that we get the virus in Sweden. But we have not had any problems because of the outbreak in Denmark, says Johan Dalén, CEO of Swedish Mink.

Mink plasmacytos The disease is spread by virus and weakens the immune system. In Denmark, it began with an outbreak in the fall of 129 mink farms in Jutland. Now another 30 mink farms around the country affected. So far, it is estimated to have led to or result in the killing of 650,000 minks, writes Jyllands-Posten.

It’s a hard economic blow for Danish mink nutrition, which is usually described as an export success in the multi-billion format.

the strategy in Denmark is to kill all the animals on affected farms. Therefore plasmacytos not been there at all the last two decades, which has led to the animals lacks all resistance.

In Sweden, the disease has been on and off. Sick animals are killed, but not whole herds on affected farms.

We have handled this in a low-intensity level so that it does not been a few outbreaks, while in Denmark now have been hit much harder, says Johan valley.
