Unusually many around Sweden became ill because of campylobacter at the end of last year, with acute diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and fever as a result.

Now, preliminary test results from the National veterinary Institute (SVA) and the Public Health Agency of infected chicken was the most likely cause.

the chicken was suspected early on to be the source of infection for the increase in cases of illness coincided with a reported increase of Campylobacter infections in chicken flocks.

SVA underlines the importance of always by frying chicken meat and by careful hygiene when handling raw chicken.
