Unnecessary hospital stays increases – Västerbotten Courier

The number of days that patients ready for discharge remain in hospitals is increasing, reports Dagens Medicin. Now they want the government investigator, Göran Stiernstedt, be sure to pre-treated patients can leave the hospital faster.

Total was ready for discharge patients over 65 years remain in the hospital 211 614 days during the first half of 2015. This represents an increase of ten percent compared to 2014.

– this indicates the importance to address the problem. A good way to do that is to implement our proposals, says Göran Stiernstedt to Dagens Medicin.

The fact that a patient remains in the hospital despite the fact that it can be printed means increased risks such as infections, pressure ulcers and delayed rehabilitation.

the reason that patients remain in the hospital is often that they are waiting for rehabilitation or a place in a special housing.
