More reported patient injuries in healthcare – Today’s Medicine

Patient insurance is handled by the county councils mutual insurance companies (Lof). According Löf attributed the increase partly increased disclosure requirement in the new patient safety law.

The number of reimbursed damage is not growing at the same rate as the notifications.

“Our interpretation of this relationship is primarily increased awareness in society about the damage in the care and the caregiver takes its informational duties seriously, rather than the care become more uncertain, “says Pelle Gustafson, chief physician at Löf, in a press release.

2015 paid a total of 630 million crowns in compensation to patients and survivors in Sweden. Most injuries are reported in orthopedics, surgery and operations with large surgical volumes.
