It’s Swedish Dagbladet writes about a luftstrupstransplantation conducted at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in March 2011.
A 76-year-old man with difficulty breathing got a donated human trachea treated with stem cells implanted.
The surgeons and the researchers who conducted the operation used a method which is adjacent to the one that Paolo Macchiarini made use of in an operation in 2008.
The researchers also refer to Macchiarinis research on artificial luftstrumpar in its report published.
the patient at the hospital died 23 days after surgery, since he had an infection that was not sitting in the trachea.
Sahlgrenska has now decided to transplant and some other interventions will be examined by the same expert, Bengt Gerdin, which examined Paolo Macchiarini.
– the reason we want to do an investigation of the issues raised in the context of recent reports on patient at Karolinska. The questions have also been raised with us, how new methods at all taken up and spread, says Lars Grip, Director of Research, Development and Education at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. SvD.
