Fire in the X2000 trains outside Skövde – Aftonbladet

A passenger trains on the Western Main Line outside Skövde began to burn. The train has been evacuated and there are a total stop on the route.

A X2000 train that is 300 meters south of the community Väring outside Skövde caught fire on Friday afternoon.

There are train 431 en route from Stockholm to Gothenburg on fire.

– now is not a lot of traffic at this time, but a few trains stop and wait in, says Agneta Eklund at the Swedish transport Administration’s press office.

Right now, she has no forecast for when the traffic can be started again and Eklund says it likely will result delays.

Saw smoke outside the window

Anders, 49, was just meters away from the final destination Skövde when the train stopped. The train stood still for 10-15 minutes before passengers got information from speakers that “something was wrong”. At the same time they saw the smoke outside the window.

– There are lot of people out here. Sometimes it burns with an open flame, but it is not very dramatic, they have not started to quench yet. I think they are breaking the flow, says Anders, who explains that the evacuation proceeded calmly.

Ambulance in place

All 230 passengers were standing out in a field and the emergency services were able to begin fighting.

– We’re about to put out full, says Per-Erik Thyberg, internal officers at the emergency services in Eastern Skaraborg.

He explains that the fire started in the engine carriage. No person has been injured but paramedics are on site to take care of people with blankets. Passengers will now have to board the train 433 which stands nearby.

May need to be redirected

Other travelers who planned to go train on the Western Main Line today refer to contact their train company for additional information.

– I suspect that we lead the trains intended to go this route. Fridays are a bit higher residual pressure so it is in everyone’s interest to let the service according to the regular table, says Alejandro Solar at SJ’s press office.
