Import of hand grenades from the Balkans to stop – Sveriges Radio

– There is already a good police cooperation between Sweden and Serbia. Serbian police was in fifty investigations last year. Of course we want the Swedish police to have access to better information and intelligence, but also concrete information if you have a suspect in a particular case, says Interior Minister Anders Ygeman in place in Serbia.

Extended information and more Swedish police on the ground in the region are some of the pieces in the new agreement to be negotiated in the spring with Serbia.

Anders Ygeman also hope that cooperation with Bosnia-Herzegovina to be better come.

it is especially smuggling grenades from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, which has been a problem in the past year. Grenades have been thrown in Malmö, Gothenburg, Uppsala, Kalmar and Stockholm.

– It is very serious, some are already behind bars and awaiting trial but we also need to throttle the flow of illegal weapons and hand grenades.

– I think we need to see the result of this collaboration quickly it is about to increase efforts, says Ygeman.

An important part in the work ahead will also see to it that police from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina will come to Sweden. Then they will understand better why it is important to cooperate, think Anders Ygeman.

– I think that will be a key success factor for raising the value of cooperation. Since I also believe that we need to start scrapping weapons in the Balkans. As long as we do not greatly reduce the portfolio will not the police measures handing far enough.
