Vetenskapsradion reports that the National Council on Medical Ethics investigates the unclear rules of what is known as clinical innovation. A case that has received much attention recently is the surgeon Paolo Macchiarini who operated in the plastic throats of patients including the Karolinska Hospital. Of the three patients who underwent surgery at Karolinska is the only one alive today. There is a gray area between research and care, says Nils Lynöe , a professor of medical ethics at Karolinska Institutet.
