There may be advanced spy gear deployed around the government headquarters in Stockholm, according to tests Daily News has done. But according to Sapo, there may be various explanations for the differences in the telephone network.
It is about suspected false base stations which in theory can monitor and capture information placed in eg officials and politicians mobiles.
The false base station lurking mobiles to join it instead of a cell tower, which in some cases may mean that the base station can have access to a phone’s microphone or text messages even though the phone is idle.
SAPO follows developments
SAPO do not want to go into more detail on what the differences may be due, nor the methods used to intercept phones or their own working methods.
Obviously, we follow closely the is happening and are interested in any information that emerges, says Fredrik Milder, press secretary of the Security Service.
DN, who has made several samples in different parts of Stockholm, writes that the area around government offices represent a significant deviation from the rest areas.
The same in Oslo
The study was conducted using an encrypted telephone, of the same kind as that used by the Norwegian Aftenposten in an area of central Oslo, where a similar result was made. The same type of mobile phone has previously revealed some twenty suspects base stations in Washington near the White House, the Capitol, FBI headquarters and foreign embassies.
The indications are that there may be illegal radio stations in central Stockholm has resulted Post – and Telecom Agency (PTS), after interaction with the Security Service, has embarked on a radio supervision of the area around Rosenbad.
We have no results of our measurements than without it is rather that we have understood by our contacts with Sapo that there is this kind of evidence, says Peter Ekstedt, press officer at PTS.
