Horse death in extensive barn fire – Swedish Radio

Horse death in extensive barn fire – Swedish Radio

A horse has burned inside a barn fire in Gnosjö Municipality this morning.

It was at half past five o’clock that emergency services were alerted to Sona Litter and on arrival was the building – a horse stable – completely in flames, says Robert Olsson, civil protection staff officer at the fire scene.

– It was a fully developed fire throughout the building and it was beyond rescue already when we arrived. It is a building approximately 10 by 20 meters, so it was a bright light in the sky that appeared long way.

In the barn there were at least four horses, three of which had been helped to escape, while a burned to death. One person suffered minor smoke damage associated with the horses were rescued, but did not seek medical care.

A total of 20 people worked from the emergency services with fire fighting and there was a risk that the fire would spread. Even the police and ambulance personnel were on hand.

– It is a large building on fire and we have protection against fire spread to another building, garage and boiler room, so right now we are focusing on the fire will not spread, says Robert Olsson, who expect to be around long.
– We will be there for many hours, I would think. Probably all day.

At nine o’clock devoted himself the rescue ate after quenching.

Ulrika Johansson, who runs Stable Sona Hill right next to the burned-down stables, witnessed the fire.

– It was burning vigorously at half past five in the morning, a real log fire and 200 meters from the flames far up in the sky. We threw on our clothes and ran out of course.

And Ulrika’s husband did something of a heroic deed when he rescued the three horses.

– It’s silly to go into a burning stables of course, but it went well this time.

The three surviving horses have now been dealt with by Ulrika and her husband.

– They seem to be well, actually . They are scorched in the coat and swollen eyes, but they eat and drink and looking pretty relaxed out now, says Ulrika Johansson.
