It is now ten years since the tsunami in the Indian Ocean occurred. A memorial service will be held in Uppsala Cathedral.

You start self-reflect on what is important in life, says Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.

Boxing day ten years ago killed over 500 Swedes in the tsunami disaster.

On location in the cathedral include the archbishop Antje Jackelén, Stefan Löfven, the royal couple and Crown Princess Victoria.

This evokes very strong feelings. We have read several stories of people who were in the tsunami disaster ten years ago and it’s clear that it’s incredibly easy to feel empathy, but it is also important to show support and that we honor all those who lost their life, says Stefan Löfven to TT before the ceremony.

Total killed approximately 230,000 people in flood waters after one of the most powerful earthquakes in modern times.

I remember when the first news came about this and how it grew and became the terrible disaster as it really was and all these lives that were lost. We followed the drama and realized after a while that this was much bigger than we could predict, says Löfven.
