Dramatic rescue of humpback whale in Kungshamn – Göteborgs-Posten

A humpback whale strayed on Monday afternoon into the harbor in Kungshamn. After struggling for her life in hours, swam it eventually out into freedom. – This is very unique, says Anders Nilsson, a biologist at the Natural History Museum.

At 15:30 pm on Monday caught a humpback whale in the harbor tang, Kungshamn, between Fisketångens port and Valberget. The event was immortalized on film by Beppe Såthen from Kungshamn, who was on his way home when he saw a ruckus in the harbor.

– The elections seemed totally confused. It came loose and took a u-turn and headed ago right up against the beach on the other side. Then people came and tried to push it out. Then headed back to the dock. Now is it out there in the harbor and snorts, and it appears to be damaged. There will be blood from his back, says Beppe Såthen.

The Coast Guard was soon on the spot and led the rescue of elections, which reportedly is ten feet tall and weighs 30 tons.

Experts counseled to allow elections to be left alone and the rest on the bottom. It had at that time severe damage, probably by propellers from a ship, and had bled heavily.

– It got tangled up in some sort of tampering far into the harbor, says Niclas Svensson, commander of Coast Guard vessels.

The Rescue tried using water sprays disrupt the elections of letting it get out of its own power. At nine o’clock succeeded in joining forces to cut loose the ropes. The elections were freed and moved but were exhausted after a five hour long fight for his life.

– We push them out elections with two boats but when it came to hamnomloppet it turned and swam out again. Then it was a murmur from the crowd, says Niclas Svensson.

After another 20 minutes turned the elections and swam to freedom.

– I’m no valexpert but my guess is that elections are feeling good. It swam up and blew says Niclas Svensson, noticeably pleased that the drama had a happy ending.

Anders Nilsson is a biologist at the Natural History Museum and the past twelve years kept statistics, downloaded and perform sampling of porpoises washed ashore along the west coast.

– I am both surprised and fascinated. Something has gone very wrong. It may be a choice that looking for food or a kid who strayed from her mother. It should not be here at all, but thrive in very deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It is most unusual, says Anders Nilsson.
