Lottie Knutson is back in Khao Lak. Ten years after the tsunami, she visits the beach resort in Thailand that was hit so hard by the tsunami.

We reached her on the phone.

What is the mood in Khao Lak before the tenth anniversary?

– Large anniversaries that we are doing is a bit foreign to the Thais. For them, time has moved on since long. They have a different religion and a different view of death, more down-played is my impression. They do not talk happily about the tsunami.

– It is not noticed much on tourists either, but maybe more on the actual anniversary.

How you attend to the tenth anniversary?

– I and some former colleagues who were to be collected on the beach in the morning, at the time it happened. Then I’ll be on the MFA and the Swedish church ceremony in the afternoon.

You seen the lot in television since ten years ago. Do you get recognized now that you’re here?

– There was someone who arrived at the airport, but otherwise I do not know. But there are many Swedes here.

You’ve been to Khao Lak many times. Is there still something new to discover there?

– We have found a new favorite place, Mama’s longest staying in Khuk Khak Beach. It’s a simple beach restaurant with massages and food. I’ll go there and get some massage now.

We’ve heard a lot about the sun loungers and parasols that have been deleted from Thailand’s beaches. What is it like in Khao Lak?

– There are no sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, but here they have always kept beaches free of knick-knacks.
