Terraced house in Nyköping uninhabitable by fire – Swedish Radio

A terraced house with eight apartments on the Arno in Nyköping were evacuated last night due to a fire. Two apartments were completely destroyed in the fire and a woman were taken to hospital with smoke damage.

The alarm came in to the emergency services just before 02 tonight. It was a neighbor who is a firefighter who alerted the rescue services.

– The person rescue operations in readiness lives next door to the apartment that the fire started in. He woke up and was up and felt that it smelled a bit of smoke and began to investigate what could be the cause. When he looked out, he saw that it was a fully developed fire at your neighbor, says Karl-Åke Eriksson, team leader at Örebro Ivoire’s civil protection in Nyköping.

The fireman called directly to Karl-Åke Eriksson and alerted the fire. Then he took two portable fire extinguishers as he had at home and ran to the neighboring apartment, where the door to the terrace was open. He went into the apartment and emptied powder savers over the flames.

– It gave some results and delayed the spread, says Karl-Åke Eriksson.

The woman who lived in the apartment was on the way out when fireman came with powder savers, and she was taken care of by the firefighter and his wife. She was then taken to hospital with smoke damage.

Despite the intervention of powder savers spread fire to the apartment above, and when emergency services arrived at the scene ten minutes later hit the flames already up from the roof of the terraced house .

It took an hour before firefighters had full control of the fire. Even rescue team from Oxelosund was with and fought the fire.

All who lived in radhuslängen, with a total of eight apartments , were evacuated. Some were still asleep when emergency services arrived. The residents gathered in a block house and is now in the morning got to go in and pick on some belongings. All apartments are smoke damaged and must be decontaminated before they become habitable again. The apartment where the fire started is totally destroyed, as well as the apartment above.

The Rescue expects to remain at 8 o’clock and after quenching.

How the fire started is as yet unclear, but police suspect not that it is laid out, but that this is an accident.
