During the autumn, personnel from the Armed Forces found five ubåtsrökljus that washed ashore on the island. The last three were found on December 18, two at Faro and one in southern Gotland, Dagens Nyheter.
– Grenades and other objects floating in the country sometimes, but precisely this kind of objects we have not seen before, as far as I know, says Jessica Larsdotter, duty officer at Gotland Police, told the newspaper.
Armed Forces believe that ubåtsrökljusen probably shot off during the exercises that Russian military had in the Baltic Sea in December.
– If you are going to practice submarine defense so can this kind of fumigating candles used for example to show that the submarine managed to get close to a certain goal, says Niklas Englund, duty officer at the Armed Forces, told DN.
