A man in his 70s died in an apartment fire in the city Mjölby municipality on Sunday.
The rescue went in with BA but his life could not be saved.
– It was very heavy smoke throughout the apartment, says Stefan Rylander, incident commander on the spot.
The fire had taken in both a wall and a sofa when the fire broke out in the smoke-filled apartment.
– When we came in we were neighbors’ suspicions were confirmed that there was one person left in the apartment, says Stefan Rylander.
He states that the fire was extinguished in a few minutes.
– There was some smoke in some other apartments that we helped to sniff out but there was no evacuation, says Stefan Rylander.
Police investigate
The alarm came to the rescue in Mjolby at 11.20 and fire brigades from Mjölby and Skanninge sent to the scene.
On Sunday afternoon it was still unclear what caused the fire.
– Technicians are there watching, says Magnus Holmstrom, duty officer at the police in Östergötland.
According to the police expected the technical investigation continue into Monday.
