Good year for blueberries – Norrland – Swedish Dagbladet

According to this year bärprognos from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is bärtätheten in northern Sweden this year around 40 percent above the average for the previous twelve years. In Götaland seems to availability of blueberries being “relatively good”, with over 90 per cent ripe blueberries compared to a normal year, while the asset is expected to be slightly lower in Svealand with over 80 percent of the average for the period 2003-2014.

Normally, the northern Norrland Svealand get more blueberries per square meter than the southern Norrland and Götaland, but this year it looks to be the most blueberries in northern and southern Norrland, especially in the coastal country.

“There are also large local variations, and if you are just looking in the right places, you can surely find much carries in all parts of the country, “writes SLU in a press release.

The blueberry season starts much later in the year due to the cool summer and is also expected to be more protracted than usual.

According to SLU’s estimates, this year’s blueberry production land of about 550 million kg, which is clearly higher than normal.
