Malmo worst hit by the blasts – Helsingborgs Dagblad

According to him, Malmo worst hit by blasts throughout Scandinavia.

– Yes, I claimed it, I understood it when I have met with managers for the second bomb protection groups in Norway, Finland and Denmark.

– They do not have the amount of explosions that we have here, and I get many reactions and questions about explosions in Malmo. Even in Europe they are very surprised at the number.

During the night on Thursday blew up a grenade under a car in Limhamn. Just two days earlier had a person taken to hospital after another grenade detonated on the North Grängesbergsgatan. It is the eighth hand grenade found in Malmö during the short period of time.

While there have been several shootings in the central parts of Malmö. On Saturday there were two, one at the Crown Prince where a person was shot, and earlier in the day one at the roundabout at the People’s Park.

A neighbor took pictures of the incident from his window. In the pictures you can see how a man going around the roundabout with raised arms and shoot. The victim was hit in the leg.

– We are aware that there is a public concern and effort now to clear up these crimes, said police spokesman Lars Performed Tell.

He says is now working to gather evidence and hear witnesses after the incident in Limhamn. So far it has not suspected of the bombing.

According to the Director Göran Månsson at NBS Malmö, the use of hand grenades increased a lot.

– Hand grenades are now used in half of the blasts occurs. So it was not before. It is appalling and extremely serious, he says, the risks to the public.

– A hand grenade is uncontrollable once it has been thrown, he says and compares the risk when someone uses a gun.

– The gun is more targeted, and then it is less likely that people in the environment are harmed.

According to the NBS previously had a code of honor among those blasts to do it in solitary places. But that time is past, they say.

The risks to the public has also become more evident now that the blasts increasingly take place in neighborhoods and public places.

If you find yourself five-ten meters from a detonating grenade is a risk that you will damage that can lead to death, according to the NBS.

Within a radius of 20 meters, it is the risk of injury. But even if you stand further away is a great risk of suffering hearing damage such as tinnitus.

According bomb experts go shrapnel not go through concrete – a plain concrete wall thus gives a fairly good protection if you do not sit just on the other side of the wall by the explosion.

Most of the hand grenades found in Malmö’s old and come from the former Yugoslavia. The most common model 75, has built-in splitter in the form of small balls.

– We do not know the whole story behind these hand grenades, they may have been out in the rain during the fighting in Bosnia. Several of them have been duds, says Göran Månsson and says that many of the hand grenades are oxidized or corroded. But most are fully functional.

– It contains the explosive TNT that lasts very long. Some shells may function even after 60 years, he said.

According to the NBS must community put more focus on stopping hand grenades at the border.

Michael Nelander’s regional director for law enforcement at Customs.

– We have very few or no seizures in terms of hand grenades. If there are many in circulation, it is likely that they have been smuggled in.

He says Customs not monitoring the border at all for most of the time.

– And that applies to all border crossings. It will then occasional larger shipments of hand grenades when we or the police are not there, it can obviously lead to major injuries, says Mikael Nelander.
