Stena Line’s CEO believes that the shipping company is free from liability for the accident that took place last Sunday. And Pekka Piirainen Transport Agency says the tanker veered in the wrong direction.
– It has veered in the wrong position in the wrong direction, they would have continued straight or veered to starboard, says Pekka Piirainen Transport Agency, which was official in readiness during the night of the accident.
It was the night of Sunday as the collision between the passenger ferry Jutlandica and tanker Tärnvind took place between Trovatore and VINGA the entrance to Gothenburg harbor.
The tanker was heading down to Halmstad, and the passenger ferry to Gothenburg. The vessels were in the streets in the channel that you should keep within so as not to end up in shallower water. And according to the shipping rules applied when the tanker was heading south to either turn to the right or go straight.
– There has been a failure somewhere in the communication. There are systems on board which records all the talk and all the maneuvers so this gets the inquiry show, what we said different moments, says Pekka Piirainen.
After the shipwreck expands Now Stena Line the number of sailings with its ferries Stena Danica and Stena Scanrail.
– We can only conclude that we have a tanker in barbordsidan, it’s not our job to lay blame on anyone, but we can only observe what happened at the time of the accident. But we believe that we have not failed, says Niclas Mårtensson, CEO at Stena Line.
