A 19-year-old young man was stuck on a small glacier above the Abisko in Kiruna Municipality during Friday evening.
Shortly after eight o’clock on Friday evening was alerted police of a man who could not get down from a glacier in the Abisko area. 19-year-old was considered to be extremely above conditions on the glacier.
– He said he was stuck and could not turn back down, he said it was too steep, says Catrin Hedqvist, the provincial officer on the Norrbotten police and rescue leaders for the effort.
Alpine rescuer called in and after a few hours could make contact with the man. Around ten o’clock at night the man was safely and without damage.
– They’re on their way home now, but the case is not completed until the man and mountain rescuers are back and it might take 1-2 hours, says Catrin Hedqvist, the provincial officer on the Norrbotten police and rescue commander for the operation.
