A 13-year-old boy who disappeared from his home on Tuesday afternoon found the night dead in the Gota Canal in Ljungsbro, outside Linköping.

– It has come to information that he wanted to learn to swim. This is very tragic, of course, says Jan-Eric Palmquist, in Östergötland police, told DN.

At half past nine o’clock last night reported a 13 year old boy disappeared in Ljungsbro outside Linköping. He had last been seen in the afternoon when he went out on a bike ride.

When the police received a complaint that the boy had not come home told the parents that he wanted to learn to swim. Therefore, the police began to search for him along the Gota Canal that runs through the community.

– After a while we found his bike and clothes at the canal bank and then called in divers to search for him in the water. We found him drowned at half three in the night, says Jan-Eric Palmqvist.

The 13-year-old’s parents are informed and have received assistance from health care.
