The government wants to establish an independent human rights institution, writes Foreign Minister, Margot Wallström (S) and Culture and Democracy, Minister Alice Bah Kuhnke (MP) in Dagens Nyheter.

It will monitor how human rights are respected, including the background of Sweden repeatedly condemned by the European Court.

The Department shall also draw up opinions on the laws or draft laws are consistent with human rights.
