One of the sailors plunged at large – Göteborgs-Posten

One of the suspects Volvo Ocean Race sailors omhäktades on Friday and continued travel ban. The younger of the sailors are put on the loose.

The two professional sailors were arrested and detained on suspicion of assaulting a police officer after a party in the Volvo Ocean Race Village in Frihamnen in Gothenburg on Monday 22 June. They both got travel ban after the detention hearing in Gothenburg District Court last Thursday.

The Friday omhäktningsförhandling against the younger of the two professional sailors were canceled since the prosecutor Elisabeth Trouve put the preliminary investigation against the 33-year-old.

– I have heard a large number of people and you can not prove he committed a crime, she said.

It was a relieved sailors who received the news.

– My client was falsely accused and denied the offense all the time. He is very happy and will leave Sweden on Friday to continue their work at home, says lawyer Rickard Axelsson.

The 33-year-old was arrested last Monday and was released with a travel ban on Thursday morning on 25 June. He was thus detained for more than two days.

– The prosecution should have been devoted to both sailors. My client is very disappointed, he feels that he would be in jail, says 36-year-old lawyer Edip Samuelsson.

According to Samuelsson has 36-year-old from the start of the case admitted that he turned away from three guards the tumult in the free port.

– My client could not breathe and beat himself free with three guards on the back. There are guards who committed the assault and both sailors and several other people have filed police reports against the guards.

The next race starts in Barcelona on July 11 and he risks losing his job if he did not have time to get there in time.

Samuelsson implies that the trial of 36-year-old deterred by the end of next week – about Elisabeth Trouve choose to continue the prosecution.
