This morning I broke a large apartment fire in New York City.
A man was forced to jump from the balcony – and had to be flown to hospital by helicopter.
– It sounded like bombs that slammed extremely high, said eyewitness Peter Sjöblom; 26.
The rescue services were alerted at 05:30. As already had a big fire flared up in the apartment on the third floor of an apartment block in Singapore. A man, who was alone in the apartment, was forced to climb down to the balcony on the second floor – and jumped from there. The man was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
– When we get there it burns too full throughout the apartment, says Per Hultman, chief operating officer at the rescue center of Stockholm.
One hour later the fire was completely extinguished, but the house had to be evacuated.
– Now we will check that the wind does not burn, then we’ll try to bring order to the apartment. When it burned so strongly, we must ensure that everything really is switched off, said Per Hultman 06.30.
A little girl, who was in one of the other apartments, were transferred to the Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital for post she probably breathed in rökluft.
“sounded like bombs”
Peter Sjöblom, 26, had just come home to his cousin who lives next door to the house after a night out when he began to hear some hefty knocks at regular intervals.
– It sounded like bombs that slammed extremely high, so that it shook. Then came a few minor knocks and we saw a crowd stood outside, he said.
He saw the heavy flames coming out of the windows on both sides, and saw the man who just jumped.
– He was sooty. He had stuffed clothes and bare-chested and was completely pitch black, says Peter.
After hearing that the man was okay, he started before the fire department arrived to knock on doors in the house to ensure that no one was left . Then he went out and saw the badly damaged house.
– It was burning on both sides of the apartment, and on the balcony side there was nothing left, it was completely nerplöjt and looked like a new building before they put up the railings .
The man who dropped out should not be in a life threatening condition. What started the fire is still unknown. Police have launched a preliminary investigation of aggravated arson.
Accommodation returns
At eight o’clock had residents of the house have been able to return to their homes. Fire The apartment was completely destroyed by the fire.
– The apartment is totally burnt out, says Roger Magnusson, chief operating officer at the rescue center of Stockholm.
– We are in and settles our resources where and representatives the insurance is in place to assess the damage.
