Every other car speeding past the roadworks – Swedish Radio

Vägarbetaren Anders cuddle Mountains on the road 744 in Bergslagen find it scary to work on the road because of the high speeds.

– Yes, of course it is unpleasant when it comes large trucks, 30 centimeters behind the back of 70-80 km / h, it is not so fun.

There are?

– Yes, every day.

Swedish Radio has measured speeds at 26 roadworks around the country, at the end of June. Total measured speed of more than 2500 vehicles using the road safety association NTF.
58 percent of the vehicles that passed was driving too fast, then more than every other car.

Anders cuddle Berg says he was near to emphasize last year when a horse trailer at high speed crashed into roadwork protection where he worked.

– There was a scrap of anything. Had it been a big truck, by car and trailer, since we had not been here today, I believe.

Gunnar Vickström, investigators in road construction issues at the Swedish Transport Administration, reacts strongly to our survey that almost six out of ten drove too fast past the roadworks.

– It’s not good, it’s scary. One is used to run a high speed and expect to be able to run at that speed all the time and maybe not quite observant now, it roadwork and now I have to prepare myself, this can be queues, and to have sufficient distance .

There were also those who drove at 100 km / h on both the 50 and 30 routes, shows the Swedish Radio measurement. Nathalie Andreasson on the road 156 in West Bengal are working to stop and drop out cars at a roadworks. As the flag guard, she feels particularly vulnerable.

– We are not protected, we’re protecting. First, it is we, then, it’s road workers, so that we’re protecting, so we are the first to get the damage.

Every year there are about 300 traffic accidents in roadworks where someone injured or killed, according to the Swedish Transport Administration. The most common are accidents on the smaller roads where vulnerable road users – cyclists and pedestrians – damage, and rear-end collisions where a driver does not hold sufficient distance and collide with the vehicle in front.
Between 2003 and 2013, 56 people died in accidents at roadworks, six of them were road workers. While most of those injured or killed are other road so many road workers concerned on the job, according to a survey by the union Seko has made.

– Have there been such a day when there has been a lot of incidents and they have run fast, then you are stressed when you get home. Then it takes a long time to unwind and to relax the job, says Christer Gunnarsson, road workers in Malmo.
