Doctors violating the Weapons Act – Helsingborgs Dagblad

Just so the situation with the killer Peter Mang. In spring 2002, he sought medical help and told me that he had fantasies about what it felt like to kill other people.

But the doctor never filled in any report form. Later the same year, Mang arms license of the niomillimeters automatic pistol which he later murdered with.

– The fact is tragic because people had done that they would do, it would have never happened, none of these people would have had to be killed or injured, says Jeanette West in the radio program.

Since Mang got his license, the law has been tightened several times after the government and parliament found that doctors do not follow the reporting requirements of the law.

From the year 2012, for example, all the people who go through psychiatric examination or mental examination reported. The fourteen were involved 1300 people, according Rättsmedicinalverket. During the same time came only in 1060 medical reports throughout the country.

A handball in the reporting. From Scania sent 51 reports – four per 100 000 population , which is in the bottom of the country.

There should be received thousands of reports in Skåne and tens of thousands in the country as police Peter Thorsell says.

Minister Anders Ygeman calls the program the doctors to pull themselves together. And use the opportunity to call and check patients at the police when there is a suspicion that someone is not fit to have weapons.

Ygeman advocates information campaigns to drum home message for doctors about what to do. And he threatens ultimately to legislation.
