Big Brawl in the Swedish whiskey industry – Sveriges Radio

The country’s only tunnbindarmästare Johan Thorslund on Thorslund Kagge Högsjö outside Vingåker, accusing the largest and most famous whiskey manufacturer Mackmyra for false advertising.

The background is that Mackmyra changed the name of a product to the “Swedish Ek”, despite the whiskey only to the small part is stored on the barrel of the Swedish oak, which is not shown on the bottles at Systembolaget’s shelves.

– The contents of this product is only stored for a maximum of ten per cent a shorter period, at the Swedish oak barrels. It is not clear at all. It misleads the consumer into believing that you should get something exclusive, as only seasoned a bit upscale, says Johan Thorslund.

of Mackmyra renamed his whiskey from the “First Edition “to” Swedish Ek “, as Johan Thorslund responded, as he supplied all the Swedish oak barrels of whiskey stored in.

Nowhere, it appears on the bottle or carton that it is only a small part of the bottle’s contents are stored in Swedish oak barrels and that the vast majority is stored on much cheaper second-hand American bourbon.

On the package before also reflected that the oak in the barrels would come from Visingsö, which is also half truthfully Johan Thorslund.

– The label, it looks as if 100 percent of the oak would be from Visingsö, but you only have renamed all the barrels we send to Visingsöek. I call it misleading.

The journalist, writer and whiskey expert Henrik Aflodal is critical to Mackmyra actions.

– I as a consumer would expect that the product is stored at the Swedish oak, but Mackmyra ought to account for where the product has been stored.

Mackmyra’s Managing Director Magnus Dandanell permits the text on the bottle and carton is unclear.

– Of course we could be clearer on the package and we should clarify what we can as quickly as we can.
