Teachers’ Trade warns relay teachers – Vasterbotten Courier

There are no excuses for school principals to still have a large percentage of unqualified teachers, claiming the two teachers’ unions.

Teachers Union warns of a system of relay teachers in schools.

The availability of competent teachers is alarmingly low in many municipalities, showing the TT’s compilation. Teacher trays comments are strict:

– We have far too many local politicians who have not woken up yet, says Lärarförbundets chairman Johanna Jaara Astrand.

Many years

Teachers’ Association Chairman Bo Jansson agrees:

– The principals have had quite a few years to prepare for the training. But places on Lärarlyftet have not been filled. We know that competent teachers is not enough, why should the principals have been more interested to act.

Teachers Association has for many years pushed the issue of teacher certification. But the reform affects some teachers negatively, to stand Bo Jansson.

– Of course it is difficult for teachers, for example, may serve on more schools. But the foundation must still be that all pupils have teachers who are trained in the subjects they teach. And in a few years, the reform should contribute to better wages and better working conditions.

Temporary permissions

Johanna Jaara Astrand fear that it will tug on competent teachers neighboring municipalities.

– It is obvious that the municipalities have a strategy will win. But it means on the other hand that other municipalities may be even worse permission. Hence the need for joint efforts.

She is also concerned that teachers’ deficit leads to a system of relay staff, much like in health care.

– To meet the eligibility requirements will obviously mean that competent teachers must be used more flexibly. It may mean a market for agency workers. But to build relationships and get a school with high quality, it is not the way to go, she says.
