Currently: fire Octowood in Kälarne not yet under control – Radio Sweden

The burning of creosote plant on Octowood just outside Kälarne. 100 tonnes of creosote makes the fighting will take time according Rescue.

– We are currently working to try to reach and suppress the fire and prevent it from spreading to more parts of the building. We have about 25 from four different forces on site to fight the fire. We urge the public present in the vicinity to stay indoors and close windows, doors and ventilation because of the smoke the fire generates, says Gustafsson.

Internal officer Mats Crown Stone on the rescue saying to P4 Jämtland not having control the fire yet, and that the fighting will take a while.

– No other buildings are threatened, it is working with, among other things. But it is very difficult to extinguish and will take time, says Mats Crown Stone.

– I have just been there, the whole building on fire. Just that there is a pole plant where wooden poles impregnated. There are 100 tons of creosote in there, and creosote are comparable with oil when it burns, says Lars Nyman, head of rescue operations in Jämtland.

Emergency jobs geared to try to cool down the fire and share of the long building, he says.

– The fire is not under control. There is a lot of smoke, and the wind is blowing towards the society, he said.

– The smoke is pitch black, we do not know exactly how toxic it is, but there are probably a lot of misery in it, says Nyman.

In Kälarne live between 500 and 600 people.
