The Social Democrats want to split parental leave equally between parents.

It feels good and natural , says Social Security Minister Annika Strandhäll (S).

Congress is expected on Sunday to take a decision on the target is an individualized parental insurance, that is to say that half of the month is tied to the mother and half to the father . The party stands behind the position change.

Former Congress decision said that the goal is “a smooth withdrawal” of parental leave. But the party has until now not committed to half of the month will be earmarked for each parent, so that no time can be transferred.

This is a tightening and a clarity that we see the importance of both parents with and take responsibility for the children, says Strandhäll.

No year

Congress does, however, not up to any year of when parental insurance should be individualized. An intermediate target is, as before, a three-way split. That is a third of the month to be distributed freely between parents.

The government decided on Thursday on a bill that involves a third paternity month introduced next year. It has the support of the Left Party and the Liberal Party and should be decided by parliament in the autumn. The government has also agreed to V to appoint an investigation into a “modern” parental. It will now be instructed to also look at how an individualized parental leave can be implemented and what the consequences are.

KD warns

The Christian Democrats are critical and warning that children will suffer negative of a completely quota parental insurance.

A consequence is that many parents will not be able to be at home as much as today with their children without the need to acquire another childcare, says group leader in parliament Emma Henriksson.

She refers to some families due to work or life situation can not let the parents stay at home as long. Henriksson also points to opinion polls which show that the Social Democrats’ own constituents are against a quota of parental leave.

This is in line with the S thought all the time, but did not dare say you know they own voters are against it says Henriksson.
