Patriarch visited Södertälje – Swedish Radio

The Syriac Orthodox Church head, Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II, visited on Monday Sodertalje to meet with congregation members.

Today visited the world-leader of the Syrian Orthodox Church, the Town Hall in Södertälje. Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II is here to support and provide comfort to all the people forced to flee from war-torn countries in the Middle East.

The Patriarch landed in Sweden Saturday and is familiar with the city of Södertälje. The last time he was there was 18 years ago, when in the role of archbishop. Now, during this visit, the meeting with the church’s parishioners in focus.

– Many newcomers who are here have no papers or a private home. I’m here with them today and during the week to pray and get them recent arrivals from the Middle East to feel secure, says Ignatius Aphrem II.

A that followed the patriarch this windy May day is Södertäljebon Shabo.

– The patriarch is brave person who dares to tackle these difficult issues. It related to Syria, Iraq and ISIS and he pulls you not to say what he likes, and to represent the people, says Shabo.

After today’s meeting in Södertälje, a patriarch meet Prime Minister Stephen Löfven, the royal couple and give speeches in parliament.
