Heavy fire in a refugee accommodation – Sveriges Radio

The fire in a refugee accommodation in Gusum outside Valdemarsvik was not under control at 1:45 pm on Friday night.

The alarm about the fire came shortly before 23 o’clock, and it burned for full already when the emergency services arrived at the scene. The fire started in an apartment on the lower floor and then spread to the floor above and the ceiling.

– We have it under control yet, says Håkan Jonsson, internal officers of the emergency services in Östergötland.

– They let the wind burning of now, in that it is concrete beams down to the apartments below.

Do you think you can save the rest of the house?

– Yes, but there will be smoke and water damage, says Håkan Jonsson.

He does not believe that , the residents can move back in the near future.

– We’ve had some trouble with it, in that the Immigration Service is involved, but in the end we got a hold of someone who can help us to move the residents to another place, says Håkan Jonsson on the emergency services.

One person has been transferred to hospital with minor smoke damage, according to Roland Carlson, duty officer at the police in Östergötland.

– We will cordon off the house and do a technical study, probably on Monday, he said.

There are currently no suspicions of crime, and there has not been any threat to refugee accommodation earlier, according to Roland Carlson.
