Young drink and crack-less – Vasterbotten Courier

The number of ninth graders who drink alcohol has fallen by half in the last fifteen years. 42 percent said they had drunk alcohol in the past year in the latest survey from the Central Association for Alcohol and Other Drugs (CAN).

– We have seen these reductions in the 2000s although This year we look historically low figures, says Anna Englund, investigators at the CAN, the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.

While drug use seems to have gone down slightly, according to the survey.

Why alcohol and drugs decrease in popularity is unclear, according to Englund, but the digital evolution can be an explanation.

– Social forums and games, on and off the network, may compete as an interface and a way to test themselves forward in their search for identity, she says to SvD.
