611 migrants in a fishing boat on the Mediterranean Sea have been rescued by the Coast Guard vessel Poseidon. 58 of them are children.
The ship was alerted to the fishing boat, which was 24 miles off the Libyan coast, early on Sunday morning. After three hours, reached the Coast Guard back and could begin to take on board the migrants. At 14 o’clock began the journey towards the Italian mainland, according to the Coast Guard.
Poseidon has since EU operation Triton began in June rescued close to 2,600 needy in the Mediterranean.
