The controversial construction of the new Slussen in Stockholm will launch next year and be completed by 2022. The ruling majority in the Stockholm City Hall agreed, and the final decision in October.
– Here we go, says a happy Karin Wanngård, which is the Social Democratic Finance Commissioner in Stockholm. We take the strategic decision in June and then will issue up in the council in the fall.
The project is the new lock has been discussed for more than 20 years. What to do with the almost 80-year-old lock, it should be renovated or rebuilt?

– As opposition leader, I was extremely critical of the minimal insight we got into the project. And with a group of independent experts to ensure we got the new majority transparency, says Wanngård.
Delays usually cost money.
– Yes, they do. It is why it is extremely important that we move on, but it is also extremely important that as Finance Commissioner has great transparency in the project, and I have now.
Project New lock has many critics. Some claim that it is enough to renovate the facility, others believe that it destroys the urban landscape and impairs views.
– I have respect for those who criticized the project, but now we have a lock actually is falling together, says Karin Wanngård.
