Papaioannou “Follow Gothenburg’s will” – Expressen

Papaioannou "Follow Gothenburg's will" – Expressen

Göteborgarna has spoken – the congestion charge should be removed.

Vägvalets Theo Papaioannou, there is only one thing for the ruling politicians to do now:

– They must follow Gothenburg’s will.

Theo Papaioannou, Vägvalets party leader, has not slept for many hours when GT hits him on Monday morning.

But the joy will still light through.

– It feels extremely good. It feels so damn good that we have right here that it was this Göteborgarna wanted.

“Can not Dodge”

With almost 57 percent voted Göteborgarna no to the congestion charge.

– I thought there would be smoother but it’s awfully funny that it’s so clear. Then they can not wriggle, says Theo Papaioannou and directs requests to the ruling politicians.

– I demand that they remove the congestion charge, and that they go through the package. As we have said, it is only reasonable that you take away Västlänken and you get to negotiate another funding Marieholmsvägen Hisings Tunnel and Bridge. One must begin to look at alternatives and there are plenty of those, says Papaioannou.

– While it is a parliamentary position which is quite difficult to handle also because they have a majority. They can not drive over it without seeking support from another party in opposition. This makes matters even more complicated – who wants to stand with the addict, he asks himself.

What do you think it would mean if the politicians go against the results?

– I think it would damage confidence in politics immensely and I do not think you can build a city that way. We need to Göteborg on the train so that it also sees that it is the right development for Gothenburg.

“a total failure”

Theo Papaioannou am also pleased at the high turnout, 72 , 8 per cent when two valdistrikts votes remains to count.

– It says that you are extremely committed and that you actually took the chance to vote.

The choice has been fighting for this for four and a half years. They had their own petition, which was voted down. They had hoped that they could hold a referendum on the issue before the congestion charge was introduced, but it did not. Now Göteborgarna forced to pay the congestion charge for one year and eight months.

– You can see that people do not accept this. Now, political scientists something to think about too. They really thought so very much of the status quo, that now the people will get used to this, but it has not been done and it is a total failure, given the propaganda machine is gone, says Theo Papaioannou.

Continues to struggle

The choice must now do battle in the City Council to enforce the referendum result:

– We have been clear from the start that now must be re-package and put themselves down and think about how to solve it instead. But the ball is in the other.
