European police from 34 countries during a joint operation, which lasted just over a week’s time, arrested 1,027 people, seized almost 600 kilograms of cocaine, 200 kilograms of heroin and 1.3 tonnes of cannabis and 30 Romanian children rescued from human trafficking.

The operation was the largest ever coordinated operation within the EU to combat organized crime, Europol writes in a press release.

The surgery lasted 15 to 23 September and Swedish authorities attended 17 to 18 September when they had an extra focus on border crossings, airports and seaports.

“Four cases of suspected human smuggling have been discovered so far and a number of people have been rejected as formal grounds to stay in Sweden has been lacking,” said Swedish National Criminal Investigation Coordinator Martin Brodin in a press release.
