Protest against Russian air violation – Swedish Dagbladet

The Foreign Ministry announces that it has today called on Russia’s ambassador in Stockholm to protest against the incident.

The Ministry confirms that two Russian planes that passed into and out of Swedish airspace south of Öland at lunchtime Wednesday. The abuse lasted for about 30 seconds.

Carl Bildt takes a serious incident on Wednesday and writes on his blog that “it’s about the most serious air violations by Russia that have taken place over the years I have been Minister of Foreign Affairs”.

The Armed Forces had “obvious control on where the Russian aircraft was” according to Gabor Nagy, flight tactical manager.

The radar and interceptors followed the first pitch, then “sent incident hunt up and identified the Russian plan “according to Nagy.

During the day, several politicians expressed concern over the incident.

– It is clear that we are concerned about this. For it is, if now the information is correct, one of the most serious violations we have had, says Social Democratic foreign policy spokesperson Urban Ahlin.

FP leader Jan Björklund says that one could see the Russian activity against Sweden during a time .

– There is an escalation in progress and therefore, I have pointed to the need to strengthen the defense, said Bjorklund.

Foreign Minister Carl Bildt (M) on Thursday asked for a report from Armed Forces. The violation occurred while Bildt and the Supreme Commander of the Parliamentary Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee discussed the right of Russian activity in the Baltic Sea.
