Foreign Ministry expressed protest to Russia – Aftonbladet

Foreign Ministry expressed protest to Russia – Aftonbladet

Russian warplanes violated Swedish airspace Wednesday.

Today summoned the Russian ambassador up to the Foreign Office – who performed a protest.

At the same time Armed Forces now out and describe the violation in detail.

The Russian Ambassador Victor Tatarintsev called up to the UD just after lunch on Friday.

At 16 o’clock performed Counsellor Torbjörn Sohlström a protest to Russia following the violation of Swedish airspace Wednesday.

– He performed a protest against this serious violation and said that we look seriously at the event and to the must not be repeated, says Erik Zsiga, press secretary to Foreign Minister Carl Bildt (M).

Had Control

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces now with information about what actually happened on Wednesday. On their website, they declare that there were two Russian attack aircraft of the model, the Su-24 that violated the airspace south of the Swedish island of Öland at noon the day before yesterday.

The two planes were one kilometer over Swedish territory and the violation lasted for half a minute.

– We had obvious control on where the Russian planes were. Initially, the radar and then with a Swedish fighter aircraft that was in the vicinity on another mission. In addition, also sent incident hunt up and identified the Russian plan, says Gabor Nagy flight tactical commander in Headquarters.

On Friday left the Armed Forces, a report on the incident to the government offices.

Serious flight violation

In his blog writes Carl Bildt, that “it’s about the most serious air violations by Russia that have taken place over the years I have been Minister of Foreign Affairs.”

Gabor Nagy stated that the two Russian fighters discovered by the defense sensors “well south of Swedish territory in the southern Baltic.”

A Jas Gripen planes were in the immediate area and were directed against the Russian plan.

– We decided to use an aircraft that had other data south of Öland to identify the aircraft and, at worst, reject them, says Gabor Nagy.

The Air Force pilot was able to conclude that the Russian plan was inside Swedish territorial waters.

– He followed them out and they made a shallow turn east and left the Swedish territory, says Gabor Nagy.

At the same time called the Swedish incident hunt – two JAS Gripen – for an enhanced control of the Russian fighters.

– Our hunting incident was on them to follow them further east. It was to further ensure that we have the technical track of who and what they were, says Gabor Nagy.

Three Swedish plan involved

He states that the two Swedish plan followed the Russian battle plan, far out to sea – before they went to the Russian Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad.

Armed Forces says it has good documentation of the violation, including in the form of images. The Swedish plan was only “a few hundred feet” from the Russian fighters.

Gabor Nagy would not comment on Russia’s intention with the violation. But it would move if a mistake is unlikely:

– I can confirm that this is a modern aircraft with technical equipment that should allow safe positioning. Furthermore, most nations themselves of a buffer frontier, an area outside of other countries’ territory, as they have to relate to.

Fencer, which plan type is also called, can fly at supersonic speeds and can be equipped with both conventional weapons and tactical nuclear weapons.

Aftonbladet has been in contact with the Russian embassy in Stockholm – which did not want to comment on either the violation or the diplomatic protest man awarded on Friday.

– There is definitely nothing before Monday. And probably, we have no comment then again, writes the Russian press attache Alexander Pashedko in sms.
