Travelodge Success can hinge on genes – Swedish Dagbladet

– For both warmblood trotters and cold-blooded trotters affects gene variant harness technology and competition performances, although in slightly different ways, says Kim Jäderkvist, a PhD student at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, to UNT.

The newly discovered gene variant is denoted by an A, unlike the original which is in wild horses and is denoted by C. Since genes are inherited from both parents may foal either set CC, CA or AA.

Breeding has made that most warmblood trotters today have AA, but in cold blood is the other variants common.

Our results confirm that it is advantageous for Warmblood with Double-A. But kallbloden sprawl findings: AA horses had more wins, but CA-trotters draws most prize money over time. A theory that can explain it is that AA-trotters are more complicated to run.

Researchers in Uppsala is now focusing on trying to find more, as yet unknown, genes may help shed light on the question of which trotters who are successful and which ones flop.
