Experts: Ebola a threat to the world – Eskilstuna Courier


 
 
 
 Ebola outbreak threatens not only the affected countries in West Africa, but constitutes a threat to the entire världen.Det consider health experts from 16 European countries, which requires immediate efforts to fight the epidemic.
 

“After months of inaction and neglect from the international community has the Ebola epidemic in West Africa has spread out of control,” writes the 44 experts in an open letter in The Lancet, directed to their respective governments.

More than 6200 people have been infected with the disease, and nearly half of them have died, according to the World Health Organization.

“Today, the virus is not just a threat to the countries where the outbreak has become overwhelming for healthcare, but to the whole world, “writes the experts and calls for a series of concrete actions:

To enable health care workers to get time off to volunteer in West Africa . Europe must also provide medical equipment, generators, clean water, fuel and communications equipment. In addition there is a “desperate need” of protective equipment and disinfectants.

If not curbed the epidemic, says the letter, “it may very well develop into a geopolitical crisis.”
