No to congestion in Gothenburg – Swedish Dagbladet

No to congestion in Gothenburg – Swedish Dagbladet

This was the outcome of the municipal referendum in Gothenburg on election day.

It now remains to be seen what practical effect the results get.

– It is wonderful to see that we had the right all the way. People do not want the congestion charge, says Theo Papaioannou, leader of the local party The choice, which has no to congestion charging as high-profile issue.

The congestion tax was introduced on 1 January 2013 and has the support of both the three red-green parties, who steered Gothenburg , and the Alliance.

The vote came after a petition tabloid GT took the initiative. The result was a clear victory for the No side, with 57 percent of the vote, when only a few electoral districts remained to be counted.

It can be seen as a strong signal against municipal politicians. While the question is not entirely simple.

The formal decision to impose congestion tax was taken by parliament. To abolish the tax, a new parliamentary decisions.

The only parties that have gone against the Sweden Democrats and the way forward whose leaders Papaioannou think many voters dismayed by the established parties listened to public opinion against the tax.

He believes the Gothenburg municipality must now renegotiate the West Swedish package, a large infrastructure investment with several other stakeholders, and several major projects, where the congestion charge is included.

– That we may lift from the Western Link, which has many questions about themselves, says Theo Papaioannou.

Local referendums were held also in five other municipalities on election day. The results are not decision-making, but only advisory for the politicians.

Bengtsfors: Should the five municipalities of the province of Dalsland merged into one? No results at four o’clock on election night.

BOTKYRKA: A strong no to letting Tullingebergsvägen become its own municipality. But in actual Tullingebergsvägen voted 67 percent in favor.

Gothenburg: A clear no to the congestion charge, 57 per cent, with a few districts left to count.

Ljusnarsberg: 65 percent voted to keep municipality name, instead of changing to Kopparberg.

Tjorn: 51.3 voted against the proposal to build an indoor swimming pool. 40.8 percent voted yes.

Upplands Väsby: 49 percent said no to building the new district Väsby Sjöstad. 44.5 percent voted yes.
