FP men are asked to step aside for FP Women – Sveriges Radio

FP men are asked to step aside for FP Women – Sveriges Radio

This is to get a better gender balance among Liberals in parliament, said the LUF-Chair Linda Nordlund.

– It is a bit too short a time to have a sample preparation, but I think you can do it is they who are the ones on the lists may wonder if it is so that they really want to remain, or if it’s time to let someone else. If the chart topper is a man and he has decided that he wants to do something different then it is usually a woman standing at number two, says Linda Nordlund.

The Liberal Party went to the polls last fall Under slogan “Feminism without socialism”. But the party did not just its second worst election ever, but only got in five women in riksdan a total of 19 seats.

The internal criticism has been harsh and even party leaders think it is bad. The party secretary Maria Arnholm says it is too soon to make big changes in the parliamentary lists, but some minor adjustments will be made.

– It is not certain that everyone who has been on our listings have the opportunity to stand. Then we have the opportunity to do about them, and then it is important that we have with this gender issue as well, says Maria Arnholm.

But these adjustments enough not for the Liberal Party will achieve equality in parliamentary elections. Why would the Liberal Youth to male candidates who tops the charts themselves wondering if they’ll stand there. And it’s a given that the Chairman of the Liberal Women’s Federation, the Golan Avci, supports.

– It is clear that if we have gentlemen out there who are willing to take a step back so no one would be happier than me, says Golan Avci.

However, both Linda Nordlund and the Golan Avci believes to a better gender balance in the Liberal party lists in this extra election is important, but it is not central.

– In the short run, it is important that we join forces and make sure that our members take to the streets so that more voters would cast their votes at us, says Linda Nordlund.
